Moulding of plastics
The injection moulding technology is one of the most used technologies to process thermoplastics, elastomers, polymer blends etc. Its principle is based on die casting technology, but with significantly different processing temperatures and flow properties of melted thermoplastics. The point of the injection moulding technology is in the cyclical repeated production steps.
The products of this technology could be final parts or semi-final parts or parts for further processing or assembly. The weight of injected parts is in range of less than 0.1g up to over 1.0 kg.
The advantages of this technology are:
- very high dimensional and shape accuracy in the whole series production cycle,
- the final part, even very complicated one, is done in one production step,
- excellent surface quality of final parts,
- the production cycles can be very short The high initial cost of injection tools can seem like a disadvantage, but it should be noted, that the tool lifetimes are usually long (mostly 1.000.000 shots).
